Mourning the loss of my Mother

When I think about the past there are a lot of holes. I have a lot of gaps and moments brushed off of my memory. I suppose I thought those moments unexciting, unmemorable, and unimportant. I didn't need to hold on to them or keep them close. I chose to dwell upon other thoughts and memories. I wish now that I could have chosen more carefully. I wish I could recall the small details of my relationship with my mother more clearly. That I could pluck from time the gentle hugs, and soft kisses upon my hair. I wish that I could grasp her hand again like I did as a child and walk with her, cuddle into her arm and listen to her laugh. If I had held those memories close I could once again experience those things whenever I wished. Instead I let the negative conquer my mind. I let sad thoughts steal from me my mother bit by bit, piece by piece. I regret that most of all. Out of all the things I regret in life I regret not holding on to the positive and happy experiences more.

As a young child my mother was the most important person in my world. I would die for her. I could not imagine her not existing, the very thought pushed me to sobbing. Now I have a daughter of my own. I would want her to grieve me and then live life happily. Not suffer everyday missing me. I KNOW my mom thought the same. She loved me and hated seeing me in pain. As I grieve some days have been difficult and others have moved along like the wind flying by quickly and smoothly. Today I remember holding her hand for the last time. Kissing her forehead. Rubbing my fingertips over her eyebrows smoothing them down. Running my hands through her hair like she always liked, when she could smile back at me when I did it. I remember the moment the nurses wheeled her out of the room, to bring her to the operating room to take from her gifts for other patients. To take her organs to give life to others. I can still hear the wheels turning on the floor, creaking and rattling away. That was my last moment with my mother...

Today I grieve and cry for her like I did three months ago, like I will a year from now, and every year after.

I love you Marmie.

What Serenity the 6 yr old is watching...

My daughter is as varied in what she watches as I am. Every day she has a different preference, but I will stick to a list of her most recently viewed shows. Here we go:

Winx Club: My feelings on this show are mixed...I really hate what these characters wear...when you watch the preview you shall see. Seri loves this show though...fairy anything is big with her.

My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Oh man, I can really get behind this show. Its fun for grown ups and kids and never anything to risque in it! Seri's favorite is Princess Twilight Sparkle.

Little Princess: Mixed feelings on this one but Seri is enamored with it, completely! I find it kinda odd myself. You can see what I mean I am sure...

What I am watching...

So first you must hear me out because I do not watch much American TV. I have my reasons...mostly....I just have very few shows still on air that interest me. I also do not have cable any longer the cost was more than the use for my family. With YouTube, Hulu, and Netflix making TV watching so different and cost effective its hard not to cut cable all together. I really enjoy Korean television, "Dramas" are what they go by. They just get to me...cant explain it....just love em. So my current watch list is very much aimed more towards Korean TV....but I will have a few different things as well. Here we go:

Via DramaFever I watch these shows weekly:

Running Man: Its desciption from DramaFever is as follows "Prepare for zany quests, hilarious antics, and insane betrayals. See your favorite stars battle it out and and show their true colors as they fight their way to the finish line. Every week, Running Man tests the strength, endurance, and cunning of Korea’s top entertainers through various missions and races." It is a Reality/Variety show that is hilarious!

It's Okay, That's Love: Again via DramaFever "Jang Jae Yeol (Jo In Sung) divides his time between being a mystery writer and a radio DJ, but his every waking moment is consumed by his obsessive compulsive disorder. In search of treatment, he's placed in the care of Ji Hye Soo (Gong Hyo Jin), who specializes in psychiatry because of her inability to perform surgeries. Through intimate sessions, they come to realize just how much healing they both need — and that they are more than doctor and patient."

~Fairy Party 2014~

This years annual Fairy Party was a lot of fun! We had tasty snacks, played fun games, colored our hair with hair chalk, face painted, and made little fairy houses! I tend to go overboard as usual, but I had a lot of help for this event from my friends which I am so thankful for. Lets get to the pictures!

  • Food: We had cupcakes, chocolate covered strawberries, and sugar cookies.

Mommy beware!!!

I don't know about other cities but in my city there are always fun and cool events posted online daily. Events done by the city or local shops get posted so often that you never have time to be bored. Only problem is that because they are posted online a lot of moms just like me see them, and decide to take their kids. What ends up happening then? This:

Every nook and cranny of Barnes and Noble gets filled with parents and children. Partly it is Barnes and Noble's fault. You cant have an event themed around Frozen and not expect every little girl to want to go.

Sadly some were left a tad disappointed, the event was listed as having Olaf present and that ended up being just a cardboard cutout...parents thought there would be a dressed up character for the kiddies. My daughter was happy none the less though!

She even got to decorate a cupcake, happy kid right here!

Beware Moms....be prepared for chaos at certain events and try to have a positive outlook! Have fun, so your children can too! See ya!

Our new pet Lizzy

After lots of visits to animal shelters and pet stores we never were able to find the right pet for our family. My daughter was disappointed and eagerly wanted her own animal to take care of. The local shelters were getting rid of dogs so fast and our cat allergy made that animal impossible. What ended up happening then? We found a great pet in our own back yard, literally. A lizard! A baby blue tailed skink is our new pet. My daughter was so excited and my hubby, who loves reptiles, was just as thrilled as she was. Introducing the newest member of our family, Lizzy! (Please don't let me kill it by accident!!!)

My top 10 "quirks"

I claim to be crazy and quirky and the reason for that is because I have very eclectic taste in almost all things. Whether its clothes, food, movies, TV shows, music, or stories I like a wide variety. One might say I am odd or find my taste immature but I am who I am. Let me share my top 10 favorite things and you can decide for yourself if the word "quirky" suits me. (^_^)

  • To start this list off lets talk hair...I never tried many "fun" colors in my hair until a year or so ago. Once I did I was hooked. When you see my hair you see me and my exuberant and enthusiastic self.

  • Next I must confess to an unabashed love of all things cute. If it seems adorable I want it!

  • Face masks are a newer love of mine. Korean face masks especially, I love Korea and these masks are just one more reason to do so.

Being true to yourself

When I gave birth to my daughter over 6 years ago I began thinking about myself very differently. I started to believe that I HAD to behave, dress, and talk like a stereotypical "Mom". Which I wasn't. No one really is a mom like June Cleaver. We are not Stepford wives. I started to tone down my personalty and tried to blend in to the crowd of mothers that were as misled as I was.It wasn't until I met more open parents, they were more true to themselves and unafraid of doing so, that I began to allow my true personality to seep out again. They had their own unique style and flair. It was how I felt inside. For a long time I thought being larger than life and coloring my hair and dressing in ripped jeans and certain other clothes would make me a worse mother. I felt like I had a standard I had to live up to.I now know how silly that was. Whats most important in being a parent is being true to yourself and showing your child through your own actions to accept and love themselves. To not allow others to make them feel differently, because this world can be cruel. Loving yourself is key to loving others. I hope my daughter will be proud to call me her Mom no matter how I look.

Trying out a new site called Influenster

A friend of mine suggested this site to me. It is a site where you give reviews and show off your "influence" in social networks and in review ability. Doing this gets you chances to be offered free products and services. I recently got an email shortly after joining and doing a few reviews and might be offered coupons for free ice cream at Target to try out and write about. Hey free is free, but you have to work for it ;) Here's the site for anyone interested in giving it a try. I will post reviews later on for anything I get!

See ya!

Kids Movie Nights

I try to host a movie night for the kids every so often throughout the year. I find that this saves money on going out to a movie and gives moms a chance to sit and chat while the kids enjoy a show together. In the past we have done The Lorax, Rise of the Guardians, Tinkerbelle, and Madagascar 3. Every one a winner with our kids. For our most recent movie night I broke out some circus animal tattoos to add even more fun. So darken the lights, cook up some popcorn, and make a pallet on the floor for the kiddies and enjoy a little bit of social time with your mommy friends for an evening.

Kids engaged, Moms at rest....wonderful!

Even had a little dress up for the Tinkerbelle night!

Slippery Fun for our Little One

When its warm enough I try to get my daughter outside. She is most definitely (what I refer to this generation's children as) a "Techie Baby". She is not used to being kicked outside in the summer to fend for herself in playtime. I think its necessary to do that for your kids. Give them freedom but also monitor that freedom for safety sake. The other day I decided to set up the slip and slide, don a swimsuit with her, and play a bit! We also got out some Aluminum Foil and I taught her to make a boat to sail. Having time with her and having time where she is independent are equally important in my opinion.

Conscious Box Review

I usually am very happy with the selection of products I get in my boxes, this time I was extremely disappointed. Most of them are literally tiny tiny samples. The "Taster Classic" Conscious box is $9.95 a month and I really don't think you are getting your moneys worth with it. In my mind it just doesn't square off with my other subscriptions with as good a value at all. The pictures will speak for themselves on this one. here's the un-boxing.

The box really misled me, because its beautiful looking.

How to: Entertain a little girl in the summertime....

I have a very active little girl named Serenity. Her name does not fit her personality. She is active, happy, and full of life and energy. A motor mouth with a mischievous nature but a wonderful little girl none the less. Summer time can be tough, she likes to stay busy and its not always easy to keep up with her. I have a few tips to keep your little one busy while staying at home and spending less. I am always having crazy play dates so spending less when I can is important ;) Here are 10 tips to make summer fun and stay home doing it!

1) Have a tea party- Nothing satisfies a little princess more than a fancy afternoon tea with her Mommy.

2) Create a puppet/ shadow puppet show- Get crafty and creative.

3) Put your little one to work washing the car- She'll help out and cool off while doing so.

4) Have a photo shoot- Props make everything more fun

Love With Food Box Review

We received our Love with Food box this week so gonna give it a quick review. I like Love With Food but will not be getting more boxes for a little while. I have to pick and choose which to get so that I am not overspending. I will get boxes again though because I really like that for each box sold they feed a hungry child. Here we go with the un-boxing:

As usual nicely boxed, but it was a hot day and it sat for a little while :/

Green Kid Crafts

We got the promo kit for Green Kid Crafts and enjoyed making little soaps with our friends. We used orange zest and juice to make the scent nicer, as well, as vanilla. It was a wonderful craft that I would love to do with her again :)

She has seen me get a lot of boxes and has been on my case to get her one as well. Finally she got to open her own and was very excited to show it to her friends.

Making Memories: Hubby's Birthday Edition

I value memories very much. I think doing special activities or events to create a beautiful happy memory with the people you care about is important in life. Call me sentimental but life is short and life is hard. Why not make good things happen for yourself and not expect them to happen on their own. Birthdays are a day in the year that you can celebrate because you were brought into the world. You can enjoy the life you have been given and revel in the person you have become. I try to make my daughter, my husband, and mine special every single year. In this post I am gonna focus on my hubby's last birthday!

I thought long and hard on what to do to make it special. In the past I organized BBQ's and took him out for a movie but last year I wanted to do something big so I researched and came up with this:

I have the sample of Harvey prince's Hello perfume and love it so so much. This is a welcome product any day!! The smell is divine.

Hosting Stress

I tend to host a lot of play dates and Girl's nights at my house. I also host family get-togethers and dinners at times and all that hosting can get very very tiring. Preparing for guests and cleaning up after they leave can be quite hard. I enjoy it though. I love making the kids happy and getting them active or excited. My daughter has a more enriching day to day life because of me hosting as well. I do think after all this time of being in charge of so many events that perhaps I should cut back. It gets expensive and it gets stressful.

The most important thing in being an Organizer or leader of a group or club is knowing your limits. Budgeting and delegating some things to others. I haven't quite gotten the hang of that. Perhaps this next school year I can improve on getting that worked out. My biggest motivation in continuing events focused on our kids is my daughter and her happiness. As an only child her friend interaction is extremely important in my opinion. Hopefully the stress of hosting will decrease and I can be more at ease. I can hope right :)

~Fairy/Pirate Party-Combo Edition~

What do you do when last year you had an awesome Fairy party AND an awesome Pirate party, but don't have the funds to do both this year. Combine them of course! Using materials from the previous year I was able to lower my cost for this play date.I added a few new things and kept a few old ones. Here we go!

Luckily there was no rain this time...previous play dates had been rained out! So I was able to use the bounce house for fairy flying training. I also added streamers to the trees.

The kids Pirate booty was placed in a large bucket with sand. X marked the spot and they all got to pick a few trinkets to take home.

Keeping with the fairy food/ pirate food theme we had another watermelon ship, fairy cupcakes, and these awesome fairy food wands.

Can't have a Fairy party without wings! I had to join in!

Face paint time again! The girls all wanted Fairy eyes and the boys wanted eye patches and mustaches :)

Lastly we had another fun game of Freeze Dance with mushroom cutouts...Kinda like musical chairs but with these cute cut outs instead. Serenity finally got to win! She was pretty excited about it :)

Well if you liked this idea I hope you plan a play date like ours and enjoy yourselves. If you do end up hosting one comment below and tell me all about it :)

Masquerade Play Date

Having a Masquerade play date is fun anytime of year but I usually host mine around Mardi Gras time. I love themes as you must know if you have been reading my posts so far. So once again I decorated, made snacks, and had masks on hand for my guests enjoyment.

I was especially excited to host this event this year because last year I had prepared cupcakes and decorated only to have to cancel due to Seri getting sick. This year we were going to have a Masquerade one way or another!

I had beads and masks for the kids to use if they weren't able to bring their own

The kids had unfortunately already snagged a few marshmallow pieces off the King cake before I could snap a picture. Inside I put a small baby figure, according to tradition whoever gets the slice with the baby will have a lucky year.

We had mini milkshakes to snack on, as well as, the King cake. I battled the blender for the betterment of the play date!

After filling their tummies the kids danced and played for the rest of the day!

Us Mommies joined in also! Mommy dance off!!!

Well if you liked this idea I hope you plan a play date like ours and enjoy yourselves. If you do end up hosting one comment below and tell me all about it :)

Book Related Play Dates: Pinkalicious

Reading a story and having a cute activity is always fun for the kids. Pinkalicious is most definitely aimed more towards the girl crowd. Its about a little girl who loves all things pink. One day she over indulges in pink cupcakes and something odd happens to her...

I bought a small craft for the kids to do for this play date. They are cupcake magnets.

For this play date we went nuts for pink foods. Not everything was pink in order to add some healthier options in there, but we did have pink frosted brownies, pink lemonade, pink kabobs with marshmallow cupcakes on top, pink chocolate chip cookies, pink cookie wafers, and of course pink cupcakes!

I gathered the kids and read Pinkalicious, giggles and silliness ensued.

For a fun game I painted a cupcake on poster board and used pom poms for cherries. They had a blast playing pin the cherry on the cupcake.

The craft turned out super cute and everyone left with a cupcake and a smile!

Girl time: Wine+food= One heck of a good time!

When you have close friends, you have the gift of laughter. Sitting alone with a glass of wine can be nice for some. Enjoying the quiet and having a calm moment, but its not for me. I like being loud, goofy, fun, and cracking up with my friends. When we get together I am always happy and I always have a good time. A few such times were Game Nights, Movie nights, and days we explored new things in town!

To keep the anonymity of my friends I turned them into cute emojis :) My friends and I get together about once a month at least to play games, drink wine(or other things if available...) and chow down. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't have these kinda nights.

Going out to events like Drag brunches, Mom's morning outs, and Movie gal pal dates have created a lot of wonderful memories for me. Stress relief via friend fun!

Go have fun, and don't feel guilty about it. I don't!
