~~~Bring on the Beach ~~~
We finally got to head out to the beach over the holiday weekend! Unfortunately for us it was super breezy and cold! :/ The wind was so chilly that we had a hard time at first. Luckily for us by 1pm it had warmed up a bit and we could enjoy ourselves more comfortably without the shelter of every single towel covering our bodies!. We brought a lunch and settled down on the sand. As soon as we were set up my wild child was stripping off her dress and crashing over the sand dunes towards the waves!
Disclaimer: This is me being real...being pissed...and being honest
For those easily offended this post may not be for you. For those who hate to read blogs chalk full of b*tching and ranting then this post is not for you. All other readers lets get down to the nitty gritty here.
Hubby Vlogs #2
I wrote a post recently about us going out to Serenity's summer camp for an open house. We had a ton of fun and saw and did a lot there! We figured a VLOG was very much needed! Serenity goes to summer camp after the fourth of July weekend and we got her a little go pro-esque camera to take along. I will start a series of posts for her around that time to document her photos and experiences :) So stay tuned for that!
With out further ado here's the second Hubby VLOG:
Special Blind Bag For a Special Girl
Today we got amazing news! Serenity was accepted into a Gifted school that is really tough to get into here in town. I had to fill out an application and list in detail different qualities that she has that makes her special. The process made me feel like I had to "sell" my kid to them. That is never a good feeling. It felt like she was trying to get into a college. I tried to do my best to be honest and straight forward...also mentioning "Hey she is 7 after all...she hasn't saved the world...just give her some time ;) " The truth is that Serenity understands big concepts and is very good in math but she is still a kid and should be treated as such. Kids like toys...and surprises!! I made this special blind bag for her to get whether she got in or didn't. Either to congratulate or console her. She is a wonderful child and her smile melts my heart! When I can give her that smile its the best feeling in the world!  Here is what she got:
~~Celebration of Life GiveAway~~
Lana J Kemp 04/02/63 - 06/08/14
It is time for a giveaway to turn a negative into a positive. On June 8th of 2014 my mom passed away and it has been a miserable and heart wrenching year since then. I know that June 8th 2015 will be extremely difficult for me. I know that I might have to wallow in my grief and let myself mourn on this day. I know it might be unavoidable but if there is even a small chance of making any of it more positive I want to try!
 How awful would my mother feel to see me this way? So I have decided to donate to an animal sanctuary and to hold a giveaway in her name. What better way to celebrate her life rather than her death than to put some positivity out into the world! I encourage any and all to do the same! (^_^) This giveaway will run from May 18th - June 8th and I will announce the winner on the 9th! Thanks for your participation and please share and pass this around!
*Must be able to give me a valid email address if selected in order to be sent the $25 Amazon e-giftcard.
A winner has been Randomly generated. The winner is Wouter de Bever
Thank you to all participants!
Crazy Quirky Family *YouTube Recommendations*
We cut ties with the cable company long ago and since then we have relied upon the internet for our entertainment. Companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and best of all YouTube have made this easy and affordable. I love the creativity and huge amount of content that can be found on YouTube especially. My daughter has recently discovered toy reviews, toy "acting" and blind bag reveals. YouTube is all she wants to watch now! Haha. Could be worse I suppose. It gives me a break from watching Monster High and Power Ranger episodes over and over again....I mean I could quite literally recite word for word... Her newest favorite channel on YT would be CookieSwirlC. Give my kid funny voices, cuteness, and MLP and she is sold! I thought it might be nice to share a few of our favorite channels with everyone, so here they are in no particular order!
Strawberry Season has Hit!
I am lucky enough to live in an area that is abundant in strawberries from May to June! The picking season is a huge deal here this time of year! We even have a Strawberry Festival to celebrate this tasty fruit! Year after year we rummage through the fields and take home strawberries by the bucketful. I have no idea what to do with them half the time but the more the better is on everyone's mind...and the ripe berries beg to be grabbed! Here's Serenity year after year picking with my hubby and I. Next up is recipe searching...
Mother's Day Pot Painting Play Date
Spring has come at long last and its the perfect opportunity for an outdoor garden play date. I don't really have a garden. I want one but I am so awful at keeping plants alive..instead of a green thumb I have a red one...red for the metaphorical blood on my hands over all these dead plants. I want to change this. I want to grow and eat veggies from my own yard. So I thought it would be nice to get some cherry tomato plants and green pepper plants to start with. I got enough for a few friends and some pots to paint and keep them in temporarily. With it being Mother's day I thought this would make a great gift for them. Not a huge expense but a huge happy pay out for the kids. They can get creative and dirty and give us something nice.
My Mother...Lana
Today I want to write a little about my mother AKA Marmie. This is my first Mother's Day without her. Last June she passed away due to brain hemorrhaging. This year without her has been one of the hardest of my entire life. I think about her all the time. I pick up the phone ready to dial her number and then set it down again knowing I can not. I have problems and can not look to her for answers any more. I see my daughter getting bigger, taller, stronger, and I realize my mother will not see this. She will not see Serenity's high school graduation, her wedding, or the birth of her children. It breaks my heart, my chest literally aches from the pain.
There are memories I cling to and memories I wish would wash away. Some memories claw away at you while others cover like a soothing balm. I remember climbing into her lap. Even in my young adult years I would gently sit down on her leg and lean into her neck. She would wrap her arm around me and kiss my forehead. She would rock me in her chair and hum.
Appreciate your Family No Matter the Hardships
I am a stay at home mom but I am also a military spouse. Sometimes I wish I could go out and get a job and I know other military spouses do but then I think about what will happen when he deploys again. I think about summer break, spring break, and sicknesses for my daughter and I reconsider.
Currently my hubby is on shore duty, for non military savvy readers that means he isn't deploying on the ship during this time, and we have had so much time together. I couldn't be happier than I am right now having my small but precious family together. This wont last forever though, soon he will get assigned to a ship again and I have no way of knowing how much time he will spend here, with us.
Dance Class...and its Wonders....OH and Costs!
I knew from the moment I gave birth to Serenity that this kid needed to be in dance classes. Why? Because I am super tall, skinny, and clumsy as hell. There is a high possibility she will be too, right? How can I remedy this problem? I have to get this kid some grace and balance! Where is the best place to learn those things? Why ballet of course! Thank goodness she loved to dance when she got older or else I would have had to force this child into those leotards and lock her into the studio. Such extremeness was not needed, whew!
Open House: Summer Camp Exploration!
Serenity is now 7 and can go to summer camp for the first time! BUT its only a day camp. No sleep overs yet...thank goodness. I am not ready for that yet. I need more time to adjust before she is gone overnight at camp!
We drove out to the camp over the weekend and looked around while trying out some of the activities they have for the campers. It was awesome! They have a pool and will go swimming everyday during camp, a rock climbing wall, canoeing, archery, horseback riding, farm animals, fishing, and so much more. It was the best place for our little ball of energy to go. We had a blast taking a peek!
The camp is full of rustic charm and has a mid-western flair. I love how much personality the structures sitting on the property have.
Asian Snacks! Seri Reviews...
Serenity is one heck of an open minded kid. It was our hope to raise her as thus. I guess we are doing something right after all. She doesn't see people by color or social position. She doesn't judge others for who they are in love with or what they believe. The thing I respect most about my daughter is that she is kind to any and every person she meets. I hope more than anything that this kind of behavior continues into her teenage years and still further into her adult life. This acceptance extends into her view on other cultures as well.
Serenity loves other cultures just as much as I do and when I mentioned the possibility of doing an Asian snack challenge she was more than just a little eager. She was a hyped up exuberant crazy girl! We tried to get a few things from different Asian countries from our local Asian market and this is what we ended up with.
Mom Guilt...
I don't know how this effects other moms but for me my guilt can get pretty bad. I have moments of feeling so awful because of doing or not doing something while parenting. Why does Mom guilt even exist? Is it to make sure we don't abandon our young or neglect them? If that is the case there are an awful lot of moms who are lacking this emotional burden. At times I can see the benefit. It steers you away from making the same choices that proved disastrous again but then there are times where you shouldn't be feeling guilty. Yet there it comes like a tidal wave washing over and suffocating you. I guess the same can be said for anxiety. The two go together like PB&J. Yes I made a sandwich reference...such a mom thing. Still it is true.
I received this box for review purposes but all opinions are my own. I have been excited to get this box and it showed up today! The company is new and growing quickly! You can sign up here at Clean Bar Box.com. The subscription starts at $14.99 a month. The box I received with 2 regular sized soaps and two half sizes costs $19.99 a month. Their soap contains: no preservatives, no animal products, no petroleum products, no parabens, and no lauryl sulfate.You can save 10% by using the promo code Quirky10 at check out. Now to my review!
As soon as I opened the box the scent surrounded me. My nose was assaulted by the amazing scents. "Wow, that smells amazing," I said aloud. "It really does," my husband replied.
Right on top sat the contents sheet.
The best part of the box for me, besides the amazing aromas, is the simplistic approach. It's clean and calm. Nothing garish or extravagant. This allows the product to speak for itself!
Target Beauty Box
Every so often target will release a beauty box for $5 dollars. If you are lucky you can snatch it up quick because it doesn't last. Its only for a limited time and it tends to go fast. Once its sold out its gone. The Spring box is now sold out and had a $38 dollar value. Here's what I got!
